Te Anau

The Holiday park has us crammed in and it was a challenge to get the monster parked. Especially as there were lots of people watching. But I seem to be adapting as I got it backed in perfectly! Whew! However, I wasn't keen to take it out again. Many people here are not here for the beautiful lake but rather a jumping off point to Milford Sound. The drive up is apparently beautiful. We, however, opted to go to Doubtful Sound (less travelled). There are 34 trips a day on Milford which sounded too much like a highway. I had read about Doubtful when we were at home and I hoped Linda would go along with my perference. She did. We were met by a bus at 6:30 am and driven to a town called Manapouri. It is on Lake Manapouri (NZ 5th largest lake). We took a boat 50 minutes to the end of the lake to a bus and taken along a track to the boat at Deep Cove. This boat took us 90km down the sound to the Tasman sea and back through a couple of arms. What a gorgeous fijord! I heard a woman a day or two ago saying she'd been to Norway so she'd seen enough rock! Yikes! Fijords in Greenland were spectacular and I still love to see new ones. Doubtful (named that by Cook as he was "doubtful" he could sail out again so never went down) was awesome and Linda loved it.
