When the proposal was made to build a huge hydro dam here, there was a great public uproar. It would have meant raising the lake levels. They found a compromise - they built the dam and station but also the necessary facilities to ensure the lake levels remained as they were! The NZ are very protective now of their land and water but I find they have a long way to go for recycling. Very few opportunities to recycle what we now consider the norm.
