Boulders

These boulders are quite famous and unusual. There are Maouri legends that suggest they were formed by baskets of food that fell out of boats. They are very impressive. The morning we got there, however, it was raining and very windy. A couple of New Zealand common dolphins were feeding close to shore, so we watched them for a bit. I wanted to wait for better weather to walk along the beach to the Moeraki boulders, we went across the bay to the little fishing village. Found a great treasure there! Fleurs restaurant is apparently world renowned. A British food critic was offered a trip anywhere in the world by a newspaper and he picked here! The building is old and reconstructed in parts. I had the chowder and it was marvellous!
