Yum
Our luch spot
Drive around the island
So, it was cloudy and rainy. The hotel shuttle bus driver just happens to have a brother who has a taxi who could drive us around the island. We walked through the first Fiji village in a downpour and couldn't get to another place because of the flooding on the road. Well, as our driver noted, this is the rainy season! Come in May, June when weather is good! I should have done more research and not relied on less expensive flight rates. So, no beach for us, no sailing to outer islands. Nonetheless, the day was fun as our driver talked about his community and life. It is a very beautiful, lush and friendly place. He took us to a town where we could have lunch and dropped us off. It had chicken and fries, fish and fries, fries and more fries. We went back to the cab and asked if he could take us somewhere more local.
Here In Fiji
What a trip. Way too long in LA as you cannot store your luggage conveniently (it might explode) and Air Pacific kiosk didn't open until 5:30. Boring long day. The plane was horrendous. I felt cramped so you can imagine real sized people. But, we are here. But wait - did you think the weather would be better after the cyclone? Stay tuned.

Soon On Our Way
Shuffling off to Buffalo soon. Our flight is Tues morning at 7:30 am so we want to be sure we have crossed the border, etc and are on time. Here I've been fretting for weeks about the possibility of a snow storm in Buffalo that might interfer with our travel only to hear this morning that Fiji was hit by a cyclone! The airport was closed but has now reopened. The travel agent was in contact with the airline and they do not forsee any difficulties for us. Hmm, makes you wonder.

I'm so excited . . .
and I just can't hide it! In just a few days we will be winging our way to Fiji and New Zealand. The laundry is being done, I'm cleaning out the fridge and cleaning house. Hired a dog walker and took her on one of my routes in the conservation area today. 4 more sleeps and we're on our way. We leave from the Buffalo airport on Tues morning. Deep breaths!
